Gemma Hillier
Welcome to Little Gems Speech Pathology!
My name is Gemma Hillier and I am a certified practising speech
pathologist specialising in children from 12 months to 10 years
of age.
After many years of study, gaining experience as a speech
pathologist and dreaming about opening my very own
speech pathology practice, I am very excited to finally share my passion for assisting children and their families in the development of their communication skills.
Since graduating from the University of Queensland, I have thoroughly enjoyed working in a variety of settings including private practice, Education Queensland and with the Children's Developmental Service at Queensland Health. This work has not only allowed me to pursue my love of working with children and their families, but has also provided opportunity to work in a variety of therapy teams and further develop my skills in the assessment and intervention of communication difficulties.
My key skills include:
Assessment and intervention of speech, language, fluency, i.e., stuttering,
phonological awareness, literacy and social skills.
Working with children from 12-months to 10-years and their parents/caregivers.
Working and consulting with staff within educational settings.
I have attended specialised training in and have experience in the implementation of:
Early Childhood Stuttering: A Practical Approach
Sounds-Write First Rate Phonics
Narrative Assessment & Intervention: Research to practice
'It Takes Two to Talk'- The Hanen Program for Parents of Children with Language Delays
Lidcombe Program for early stuttering
Reading Doctor Apps
'Sequential Oral Sensory Approach' to feeding (SOS)
I am a proud mother to two children, Walter and Isla.
I welcome you to explore my website and to contact me if you have any questions or would like to arrange an appointment.
Happy Talking!
